Service Technician

Our team is growing and we are hiring a full-time Service Technician. We are a contractor that specializes in fuel systems for mission-critical facilities like data centers and hospitals. The systems we build help keep the power on so that people can stay safe and live their lives without interruption when the power goes out. We currently perform work for some of the largest end-user technology clients in the world and we want to add high-performing individuals to our team so that we can continue to serve these clients. We are a highly collaborative group of smart and hard-working, but friendly and sometimes noisy, people who have a knack for solving problems.

Responsibilities

The position reports directly to the Technical Services Manager but will work directly with other Vital team members.

Technical Work

  • Performs repairs and preventative maintenance in an efficient and effective manner such as: develops an understanding of the system, anticipates possible issues, creates an action plan, orders materials, prepares required documents, and executes on the plan.
  • Works with field services team as needed, including starting-up and commissioning systems. This includes tying-up loose ends and ensuring that a quality product is delivered to the customer.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems involving all parts of a fuel system and performs controls, piping, and other electronics, electrical, and mechanical work.
  • Promptly communicates and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Creates and presents sales quotes as well as service, start-up, and other reports to customers.

How the Work Gets Done

  • Responsible for service vehicle and maintaining tools required for performing the job effectively and safely.
  • Must work in a safe manner and comply with customer’s and Vital’s safety and housekeeping rules as well as fire safety, OSHA, EPA, and other applicable rules and regulations.
  • Performs work required to obtain and maintain necessary certifications.
  • Overnight travel (~75% of the time) and work (e.g., repair calls) outside of normal business hours required; however, travel is rarely outside of the normal Monday – Friday workweek.
  • Maintains a high standard of professionalism, and strict confidentiality and discretion with company and customer information.
  • Serves others, working cooperatively with Vital colleagues, customers, and vendors.

What You Have

  • Minimum three years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to understand complex fuel systems and work through challenging issues involving the system (mechanical, electrical, controls, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders without oversight.
  • Enthusiasm and comfort in quickly learning and taking ownership of tasks proactively, even if it’s new.
  • Dependable and shows strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must work well in a team environment where tasks can be shifted between different team members.
  • Can establish priorities, work independently, exercise judgement, manage multiple tasks, and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • General tech savviness, including being able to use a variety of software applications across different devices and understands basic networking and communications.
  • Must be able to communicate in English (speak, write, and read).
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass background checks and drug screens, gain access to secure sites, and be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must possess a valid Real ID driver’s license and have a good driving record.

Bonus If You Have

  • Experience in the commercial construction, fuel oil, automation, or manufacturing industries.
  • Experience with tank gauges, relay logic, programmable logic controllers (PLC), and human machine interface (HMI) screen such as Franklin Fueling, Veeder-Root, AutomationDirect, Mitsubishi, Allen Bradley, and Simplex.

Project Manager

We are a contractor that specializes in fuel systems for mission-critical facilities like data centers and hospitals. The systems we build help keep the power on so that people can stay safe and live their lives without interruption when the power goes out. We currently perform work for some of the largest end-user technology clients in the world and we want to add high-performing individuals to our team so that we can continue to serve these clients. We are a highly collaborative group of smart and hard-working, but friendly and sometimes noisy, people who have a knack for solving problems.

The Project Manager contributes engineering/design expertise and manages all aspects of the project from contract award through project completion. The Project Manager also ensures that the project is executed safely, with the highest standards of quality, and that customer expectations are met or exceeded.

Responsibilities

Engineering & Project Management

  • Creates value and contributes to fuel system engineering/design through assisting designer of record, sales efforts, and direct to owner activities.
  • Uses specialty knowledge of fuel systems to determine the necessary resources needed to execute the project scope, then secures those resources.
  • Works through engineering/design issues (mechanical, electrical, controls, etc.) involving complex fuel systems and oversees project field personnel by directing construction activities, providing guidance, and answering questions.
  • Reviews and negotiates agreements with customers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Develops and manages project budgets and monitors work against the project scope, formally addressing any deviations.
  • Monitors activities on multiple construction sites, anticipates and resolves project issues, ensures projects are executed to a high standard of quality, and makes sure project deadlines are met.
  • Creates and maintains project documentation.

  • Emphasizes service to others, communicates promptly, and works collaboratively with Vital colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
  • Ensures compliance with customer’s and Vital’s safety and housekeeping rules as well as fire safety, OSHA, EPA, and other applicable rules and regulations.
  • Performs work required to obtain and maintain necessary certifications, strives to improve skills and working knowledge, and shares best practices, process improvements, etc.
  • Overnight travel and work outside of normal business hours required; however, travel is rarely outside of the normal Monday – Friday workweek.
  • Maintains a high standard of professionalism, and strict confidentiality and discretion with company and customer information.
  • Provides estimated cost to complete, projected billings, and other project financial metrics.

What You Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a closely related field of study; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience.
  • Can think critically and use a variety of engineering methods to creatively solve problems while working within the bounds of code and other requirements.
  • Ability to build and manage project budgets as well as negotiate pricing and contracts.
  • Can use project management tools to simultaneously manage multiple projects of varying size and complexity and can lead personnel on those projects.
  • Shows strong attention to detail but also understands the big picture.
  • Works well in a team environment, but can also establish priorities, work independently, exercise judgement, make quick decisions, and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and non-verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate without oversight.
  • Enthusiasm and comfort in quickly learning and proactively taking ownership of tasks.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be able to communicate in English (speak, write, and read).
