Assistant Project Manager
Our team is growing and we are hiring a full-time Assistant Project Manager in our Apex, NC office. We are a contractor that specializes in fuel systems for mission-critical facilities like data centers and hospitals. The systems we build help keep the power on so that people can stay safe and live their lives without interruption when the power goes out. We currently perform work for some of the largest end-user technology clients in the world and we want to add high-performing individuals to our team so that we can continue to serve these clients. We are a highly collaborative group of smart and hard-working, but friendly, people who have a knack for solving problems.
This position is mentored by the Vice President of Operations but works directly with Project Managers, providing assistance as required. Day-to-day tasks will vary and may involve procuring custom equipment and materials, assembling submittals and closeout documentation, troubleshooting design issues, drafting and contributing to the Building Information Modeling (BIM) process, working with the commissioning team on startups, procuring and evaluating subcontractor pricing, obtaining proper licenses and permits, participating in required job site meetings, traveling as necessary to support the project/schedule/field crews, and jumping into the middle of whatever the day-to-day needs may dictate.
The ideal candidate will have the highest of integrity, 1-2 years of work experience (construction, engineering, manufacturing, or related industry preferred but not required), a degree in construction management or engineering, and proficiency with AutoCAD/Navisworks (or ability to learn), Word, and Excel. The candidate should also be comfortable working with and learning from experienced Project Managers, capable of managing themselves and tasks responsibly, able to identify critical path items and set priorities, able and willing to work between the office and field, comfortable getting their hands dirty, willing to embrace a variety of work tasks and able to work in and remain calm under pressure in a sometimes fast-paced environment, all while maintaining a smiling demeanor.

Sales Engineer
Our team is growing and we’re hiring a full-time Sales Engineer in our Apex, NC office. We currently perform work for some of the largest end-user technology clients in the world and we want to add high-performing individuals to our team so that we can continue to serve these clients. This position is mentored by the Director of Preconstruction but works directly with other members of the Vital team. Regular duties include:
- Providing accurate takeoffs based on plans and specifications, gathering supplier proposals, building project estimates, and writing thorough, accurate scope letters.
- Project prospecting, performing site visits, attending pre-bid meetings, and submitting bids.
- Vendor/subcontractor selection.
- Working with the Preconstruction team to develop and execute project strategies, providing organized and regular opportunity follow-up, and updating project sales status.
Overnight travel (<25% of the time) and work outside of normal business hours required; however, travel is rarely outside of the normal Monday – Friday workweek.
The ideal candidate will have the highest of integrity, 3-5 years of relevant work experience (petroleum industry experience is a plus), and proficiency with AutoCAD/Navisworks and various Microsoft Office applications. An Associate’s degree in engineering, construction management, or a closely related field of study is required, though a Bachelor’s degree is preferred. The role requires a dependable person who works well in a team environment, but who can also work independently to set priorities and meet deadlines. In addition, the candidate should have:
- Strong analytical/math skills and the ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and other project documents to evaluate and comprehend the total scope of work required.
- The ability to create accurate and complete estimates/bids.
- A strong understanding of construction processes and knowledge of estimating techniques, cost controls, and materials pricing.
- A good attitude, be customer focused, and have enthusiasm and comfort in quickly learning and taking ownership of tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
